Technology
SKEDD is a further development of a technology that has been known for over 40 years: press-fit technology. Unlike ordinary press-fit technology, however, SKEDD is a plug connection. The main difference between a press-fit and a plug connection is:
- With a press-fit connection, the high forces involved in the connecting process create a gas-tight connection between the contact surfaces. The hole geometry of the PCB then adapts itself around the contact.
- With a plug connection, however, the surfaces to be joined are pressed together with a sufficient force for good contact (the normal contact force), but without an intermetallic bond being formed. Accordingly, the contact geometry of the connector adapts to the hole in the PCB.
